Spanish Civil War - Mod for Hearts of Iron IV
In late April of 2017 I decided to create a mod for Hearts of Iron IV - a game created by Paradox Interactive.
The mod aims to make the Spain (and subsequently Fancoist & Republican Spain) more interesting to play. It replaces the generic Focus Tree, and instead gives you options based on whether you are Fascist or Communist. For politics, you can choose to create your own faction, to unify the Iberian Peninsula, take back Gibraltar, or try and exert influence over your former South-American colonies!
While Spain is unlikely to become a super power during the war, it can be transformed into something that could compete with Italy, with far reaching influence in South America. Or become a powerful Fascist or Communist ally.

This project started as a simple 2D platformer built in Gamemaker: Studio, which I used to learn how to code.
This then evolved into an ultra-violent, frenetic action game, with an enemy AI & attack patterns, destructible walls, and a focus on explosions.
A key part of the game was that the player and all enemies could be killed in a couple of shots, forcing the player to take cover and ambush or overwhelm opponents with sheer firepower.
The game was designed to have the feel of a cheesy 80's action movie, complete with a ridiculously far fetched plot of a President ordering the deaths of the main character's family - which the player must avenge. Classic popcorn movie.
The project took a few months to reach a solid prototype. I later made the switch to Unity, and began work on what is now Pit Fighter Tycoon.
